This is my Books Page

On this page you will find many titles to enthralling books (maybe) in addition to short synopses of them.  I will also supply links to their publishers if I can remember who published them.

I really like to read, especially fantasy books.  I also like to read other types of books, but those are few and far in between.  Generally I read TOR and Bantam fantasy books, but I really like Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt books.

I'm going to compile a list of my favorite authors here.  If you don't want to read it, then simply scroll beyond it.  The author's name will be on the right hand side of the table, and his/her publisher will be on the left.  The inner two columns will list the types of books and specific epics which cause me to like that author.  The names are in no particular order.

Author Type Specific Publisher

J.R.R. Tolkien Fantasy Lord of the Rings Ballantine

For those of you living in or around Klamath Falls, you can probably find many or all of these books at the Basin Book Trader at the corner of Wiard and South Sixth.

Here are some short synopses of the books mentioned above, and none of them will have even close to a full plot outline due to a 3 MB limit on web space.
Clive Cussler:  His books are about a car/airplane collector named Dirk Pitt who is used by NUMA (National Underwater Marine Agency) to help retrieve lost or sunken ships or artifacts.  Dirk holds the rank of Air Force Major, and also performs many 'detective' missions to discern and fix problems in other areas of expertise, like the swelling of dracoflagella due to chemical spills.  Clive Cusslers's novels are always set just a few years ahead of their publication dates.  His Dirk Pitt novels are The Sea Hunters (non-fiction), Pacific Vortex, Iceberg, Vixen 03, The Mediterranean Caper, Raise the Titanic, Night Probe!, Deep Six, Cyclops, Treasure, Dragon, Sahara, Inca Gold, Shock Wave, and Flood Tide, which he is currently writing and is due out in Sept '97.

Robin Hobb:  Robin's books are of a fantays genre set in an un-named world with the Kingdom of the Six Duchies as the main geographical area.  The main characters are FitzChivalry Farseer, Verity Farseer, Chade Fallstar, Kettrican, and the  Fool.  Fitz is a Witted and Skilled royal bastard trained as an assassin from the age of about 6 years old.  Because of his Wit, he can 'speak' with animals and sense other forms of life around him. The Skill in him would allow him to read other people's minds and project his own thoughts and will into other people's minds.

J.R.R Tolkien:  The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.  If you haven't read these, you are seriously deprived and should be shot.

R.A. Salvatore:  Bob is well known for his fantasy novels on Drizzt Do'Urden and Luthien Bedwyr.  Drizzt is an outcast dark elf from beneath the earth of Abeir-Toril, and Luthien is a fugitive from the Isle of Bedwyr in Eriador.  Drizzt is a kick-ass ranger in the Forgotten Realms setting, and Luthien is heading a rebellion against the Sorcerer-King Greensparrow.  Both sets of books are awsome.

Raymond E. Feist:  Feist writes some of the best books I have ever read.  These are, in chronological order, Magician: Apprentice, Magician: Master, Silverthorn, A Darkness at Sethanon, Prince of the Blood, King's Buccaneer, Shadow of a Dark Queen, Rise of a Merchant Prince, Rage of a Demon King, and is currently writing Shards of a Shattered Crown.  He also co-authored Daughter of the Empire, Servant of the Empire, and Mistress of the Empire.  Anyway, here's the synopsis of the Riftwar Saga:  The Riftwar Saga follows the lives of many people. There is Pug, who begins as a peasant in a small town in The Kingdom who eventually ends up as the most powerful known practitioner of Magic.  There's Tomas, who also begins as a peasant in the same town, who becomes the Valheru consort to the Elf Queen Aglaranna. These two begin it all, but along the way, you meet with Prince Arutha, Jimmy the Hand, Macros the Black, and many others.

Robert Jordan:
The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend.  Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again.  In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose in the Mountains of Mist.  The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time.  But it was a beginning.

Jordan would have to be placed just above Feist in my hierarchy of "Godly Authors."  He is the author of the currently seven book series called The Wheel of Time.  The eighth book is in the works, and fans hope it will be out by spring of 1998.  His Wheel of Time books are The Eye of the World, The Great Hunt, The Dragon Reborn, The Shadow Rising, The Fires of Heaven, Lord of Chaos, and Crown of Swords.  The eighth book will be titled The Path of Daggers.  He also wrote the Conan Sagas.  The Wheel of Time is about 3 main characters who alter the course of history without being aware of it, called ta'vereen.  These heroes are Rand Al'thor, Matrim Cauthon, and Perring Aybara.  They are accompanied by Moirainne and Lan, an Aes Sedai and her warder.  There is far too much information to list, so go here for more.

Terry Goodkind:  Terry is the best fantasy author read.  He has only published three books, Wizard's First Rule, Stone of Tears, and Blood of the Fold, and Temple of the Winds, as it is scheduled for release in September 1997.  His books are much too extensive for me to detail them here, but I will at least give a very bare outline of them.  Richard Cypher is a man born with the rare gift.  The gift gives him the possibility of reaching the station of Wizard of the First Order.  He was also born a War Wizard, the first in over three thousand years.  As a war wizard Richard can utilize both the Additive and Subtractive magics of the world.  He meets the love of his life, Kahlan Amnell, the Mother Confessor.  As the Mother Confessor, Kahlan is the most powerful person in the world, being able to force any human into practically worshiping her as a goddess, and doing absolutely anything she should wish them to do, simply by touching them.  They are put through many toils and troubles, and as yet have not had the chance to be married.

Isaac Asimov:  I've liked Asimov for his publications on astronomy since I was about eleven years old.  Recently I was introduced to his Robot series, and will focus this synopsis on those books.  The Robot Series is Caves of Steel, The Naked Sun, and Robots of Dawn.  The books are set far into Earth's future and are about plainclothesman Elijah Baley and his partner in detectiveness R. Daneel Olivaw.  The R. stands for robot, and Elijah Baley hates robots.  They go off to solve murder mysteries, where a robotocist, a genetic developer, and a robot are murdered.  Asimov has regretfully passed away, and so will no longer be producing anymore publications.  During his life he has published books in every hundred's section of the Dewey Decimal System (over 477 books!!!), and multiple magazine articles.  He also had a Ph.D. in Biochemistry.
